Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children (PKRC) provides programs for children born with physical differences (hands, legs etc), children with cancer, and children with mental retardation. They hold several different themed weeks of camp in the summer for different groups of kids, weekend programs, environmental education programs and physical therapy programs, held at a 150 acre camp along the Lampasas River in the Hill Country near Salado, TX.
At this camp, kids are able to work on self-esteem, self-confidence, and team buiilding. They leave camp feeling like they can handle everyday life with more confidence in themselves, in spite of their differences. PKRC serves 5,000 children and their families annually. It is the only organization of its kind in Central Texas.
Alliance UMC supports PKRC with an annual fundraiser, typically in February, where attendees can, among other things, "send a kid to camp for a day" and/or purchase a Variety Cinema Passport movie pass. All money raised goes directly to PKRC.
